A Brazilian Music Collective
Musician and educator Michelle Ureña has been performing in the Detroit area for eighteen years as a saxophonist, flutist and clarinetist in a variety of styles including jazz, Latin, classical and popular music. She co-leads a Latin jazz group with her husband and composes and arranges material for the group. For the last twelve years, Michelle has been teaching private and group lessons to students of all ages and abilities. for several years in the field, but her deep love for music could not be ignored. Michelle began her journey again by studying with local saxophonist and recording artist Larry Nozero during lunch breaks from work and practicing during every spare moment at home after work.
After being introduced to some big band leaders, Michelle started performing and became involved in the local music community. She began performing in concert bands, local theater pit orchestras and big bands, eventually leaving the video production business to pursue music full-time. In addition to performing, Michelle has a passion for teaching. As a private instructor of saxophone, flute and clarinet, she has helped students improve their musicianship and meet their varied musical goals. As a result, her students have succeeded in solo and ensemble performances, auditions for high school, all-state and college music programs.
